This is a special lecture on the details of the conservation movement of traditional crafts of the study, and the vision for the future in Chinese design. The variety of traditional crafts that can be seen all over China is too numerous and obscured, so it has not been properly quantified or databased. Therefore, the Chinese government from 2016 to 2020, academic development was promoted through the 'Protection of Traditional Chinese Handicrafts' project. From the introduction of the works of Chinese artisans, to how traditional crafts are combined in the present day with various craft techniques, various materials and colors, and introductions of various artists, and how they are maintained by the real public, furthermore, how actual design products are made through collaboration with artisans has been introduced.

중국에서 진행되었던 전통 공예품 보존 운동의 상세한 내역들에 대한 정리와 스터디 내용, 앞으로의 비전에 대한 특강을 했다.

중국 전역에서 볼 수 있는 다양한 전통 공예품이 있다. 그러나 워낙 자료들이 넓고 방대해서 그동안 제대로 수치화 또는 데이터베이스화가 제대로 이루어지지 않았다. 그렇기에 2016년에서 2020년까지 '중국 전통 수공예품 보호' 프로젝트를 통해 학문개발을 추진하였다. 중국 장인들의 작품 소개에서부터 다양한 공예 기법, 다양한 재료와 색채, 다양한 작가들의 소개와 함께 전통 공예가 현대에 결합되어 어떻게 실제 대중들의 곁에서 유지되고 있는지, 나아가 장인들과의 협업을 통해 실제 디자인 제품들이 어떻게 나왔는지 강의하였다.

The main theme is the human body and chair. His works were produced through deep and broad insight into the process of human sitting and the postures maintained after sitting. Human movements are very delicate and amazing. It is a movement like a work made by muscles, bones, and the human will. Kita Toshiyuki is Japan's leading product and furniture designer. He meticulously described his masterpieces and work process. Also, he is a designer with deep ties to Italy, and it is said that Italy is his second motherland. Starting with the introduction of the Wink Chair, which is still on sale by Cassina, a famous furniture maker, he introduced the story of the birth and production of his various works, which are on permanent display in many museums around the world, such as MOMA in New York, Center Pompidou in Paris, and Museum of Modern Art in Munich. He told insights on sustainable furniture and visions for future furniture.

키타 토시유키. 일본을 대표하는 제품 및 가구 디자이너로서 그의 대표작과 작업과정을 직접 듣는 기회를 제공하였다. 이탈리아와의 인연이 깊은 디자이너로 이탈리아는 그의 제2의 고향이라고 말할 정도다. 유명 가구메이커 카시나에서 지금도 판매중인 Wink Chair의 소개를 필두로 뉴욕 MOMA, 파리 퐁피두 센터, 뮌헨 근대미술관 등 세계 다수의 뮤지엄에 영구전시중인 그의 다양한 작품들의 탄생비화, 제작 비화를 들을 수 있었고 가구, 액정TV, 로봇, 조명 등등 다양한 그의 히트상품에 대해 배울 수 있는 좋은 기회가 되었다. 또한 지속가능한 가구에 대한 인사이트 및 미래 가구에 대한 비전을 들을 수 있었다.

1. 유정아

DDP 에서 전시된 사방탁자의 개발 사례에 대해 특강을 했다. 전통적인 사방탁자에 담기는 물건은 책과 도자기였다. 그러나 현대적으로 해석하며 현대적 공간에서 쓰일 때를 고려해야 했고, 기존의 속성 뿐만 아니라, 전자기기와 가방, 조명기구 등 훨씬 크고 다양한 현대적인 상품으로 확대되려면 충분한 공간을 가져야 했다. 그렇기에 사방탁자의 내부에 더 다양한 빈 공간을 만들어 내기로 했다. 전시된 물건이 없을 때에는 이 구조물 자체가 조형적 오브제가 된다. 마치 전통 사랑방 가구들이 만들어내는 재미있는 비례처럼, 사방탁자의 비어 있는 공간에 다양한 구성의 비례를 채워 넣었다. 이 사방탁자가 주거공간에서 사용된다면, 사방탁자 내부의 구조물과 함께 애착이 가는 여러가지 물건들을 디스플레이하고 옮기고 관리하면서 새로운 구성의 비례를 표현하는 장소, 방 주인의 감각과 취향, 품격을 실험하고 대변하는 장소가 될 것이다.

2. 김명

사방탁자의 현대적 해석 디자인 사례에 대한 특강을 했다. 서울디자인재단DDP에서 개발한 여러가지 상품들이 있는데, 국내외 전시용 가구 개발 사례를 소개했다. 한국의 전통가구는 화려한 장식이 아닌, 자연 상태 그대로의 나뭇결이 살아있는, 견고한 매력이 있다. 국민대에서 참가한 2008년 밀라노에서 전시된 한중일 삼국의 디자인 대학 교류 수업의 결과물을 전시한 사례를 시작으로, 여러 관점을 발전시켰고 그 결과 현대화된 사방탁자를 통해 전통과 마찬가지로 가구 스스로의 화려함 보다는, 그 안에 담기는 물건의 품격을 오롯이 담아 내기 위한 가구를 개발했다.

1. Chung-Ah Yu

She gave a special lecture on the development case of the four-way table displayed at the DDP. The traditional tableware contained books and ceramics. However, we had to consider modern interpretations and use them in modern spaces, and we had to have enough space to expand not only to existing properties, but also to a much larger and diverse range of modern products such as electronic devices, bags, and lighting fixtures. Therefore, she decided to create more diverse empty spaces inside the four-way table. When there is no object on display, this structure itself becomes a formative object. Like the fun proportions created by traditional Sarangbang furniture, the empty space of the four-way table was filled with various proportions of composition. If this table is used in a residential space, it will be a place to display, move, and manage various objects attached to it along with the structure inside the table, and to experiment and represent the owner's sense, taste, and dignity.

2. Myung Kim

This is a special lecture on the case of modern interpretation design of the Sabangtakja. There are various products developed by DDP of Seoul Design Foundation, and this is an example of furniture development for display at domestic and foreign exhibitions. Traditional Korean furniture has a strong charm, not with fancy decorations, but with natural wood grain. Starting with the case of exhibiting the results of a design university exchange class between Korea, China and Japan exhibited in Milan in 2008, in which Kookmin University participated, various perspectives were developed. We have developed furniture to fully capture the quality of the items to be contained.

세계적 산업디자이너인 스테파노 지오반노니의 디자인 작품 세계를 중심으로 특강이 진행되었다. 지오반노니의 초기 작품인 Girotondo를 시작으로, 이탈리아 생활용품 브랜드 ‘알레시(Alessi)’ 에서 부터 가구 브랜드 ‘마지스(Magis)’ 등 수많은 브랜드의 인기상품들을 디자인했다. 또한 Mami, Bombo, Rabbit Chair 등등 그의 유명하고 다양한 작품들에 담겨있는 디자인적 철학을 통해 세계적인 디자인교육 및 연구를 통한 글로벌 교육을 목표로써 창의적이고 통합적인 사고를 가진 디자이너를 양성하는 실무형 워크샵 디자인 교육이었다. 끝으로 학생들과의 직접 소통을 통해 스테파노 지오반노니의 작업 스타일부터 앞으로 그의 지향점까지 직접 들을 수 있는 기회가 되었다.

Narrative Design ⸻

This special lecture was held focusing on the world of design works by world-renowned industrial designer Stefano Giovannoni. Starting with Giovannoni's early work, Girotondo, he has designed popular items for numerous brands, from Italian household goods brand Alessi to furniture brand Magis. In addition, it was a practical workshop design education that nurtures designers with creative and integrated thinking with the goal of global education through world-class design education and research through the design philosophy contained in his famous and diverse works such as Mami, Bombo, and Rabbit Chair. Finally, through direct communication with the students, it was an opportunity to hear directly about Stefano Giovannoni's work style to his future goals.

Understanding of sustainability-Salone del mobile Milano 2021 review ⸻

She worked for Atelier Mendini for 20 years. Looking at her long life in Italy, the post-coronavirus has dramatically changed Italy a lot. This influence had a great impact on the launch of new design products. Design can reach consumers more perfectly when it is approached not only in form but in development, but in all areas including materials and marketing. She introduced various product lineups that she collaborated with at Atelier Mendini and gave a special lecture from a macro perspective of design changes. In addition, she predicted the future direction of the design by conducting a review of the Milan Fair (SALONE DEL MOBILE 2021) held in 2021.

아뜰리에 멘디니에서 20년간 근무하며 있었던 이탈리아의 생활을 바라보았을 때, 포스트 코로나로 인해 이탈리아는 많은 것이 급격하게 변화했다. 이 영향은 새로운 디자인제품 출시에도 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 디자인은 형태만 개발이 아닌 소재와 마케팅까지 모든 영역을 아우르게 접근했을 때 보다 완벽하게 소비자에게 다가갈 수 있다. 아뜰리에 멘디니에서 그동안 합작했던 다양한 제품 라인업을 소개해주며, 디자인 변화의 거시적 관점으로 특강이 진행되었다. 추가로, 2021년 개최된 밀라노 페어(SALONE DEL MOBILE 2021) 리뷰를 진행하며 앞으로의 디자인이 나아갈 방향에 대한 전망을 예측하였다.

1. 안전을 위한 디자인

팬데믹 이전에의 오피스 안전문제는 근로자의 건강과 안전 기준이었다고 하면 질병 전파를 최소화하는 다면적이고 체계적인 접근법에 대해 대비를 해야 하고 공기의 질, 사무실의 밀집도, 가구의 배열, 분리여건, 물질,위생, 감지기, 핸즈 프리, 안전하다는 느낌을 줘야한다.

2. 생산성을 위한 디자인

과거 사무실을 디자인하는데 효율적인 측면을 우위적으로 고려했다면 협업과 집중을 지원하는 다기능 공간을 구현해야 한다. 이러한 점은 국내에서도 다양한 사무환경 세미나를 통해서 소개되었지만 대면협업, 비대면협업, 개인프라이버시, 이동 유연성 등이 필요하다.

3. 강한 공동체 열정을 불러 일으키는 디자인

사무실이 단지 일하는 장소로부터 사회 자산을 기반시설이자 목적과 소속감을 불러 일으키는 장소로 사무실의 목적을 재정의할 필요가 있다. 예를 들면, 활력, 포용, 신뢰, 탄력, 환경적-사회적인 영향에 대한 가치창출이 존재해야 한다.

4. 융통성을 위한 디자인

유연한 건축적 요소들, 복합성, 이동성이 더 확장될 것이다.

LifeCycle & Furniture Trend ⸻

1. Design for safety At pre-pandemic, the office safety issue was worker health and safety standards. However, at present, it is necessary to prepare for a multifaceted and systematic approach to minimizing the spread of disease and providing a feeling of air quality, office density, furniture arrangement, separation conditions, materials, hygiene, sensors, hands-free, and safety.

2. Design for Productivity When designing an office in the past, the efficiency aspect was considered preferentially. However, for now, it is necessary to implement a multifunctional space that supports collaboration and concentration. Although this point was introduced through various office environment seminars in Korea, face-to-face collaboration, non-face-to-face collaboration, personal privacy, and mobility flexibility are required.

3. Design for strong community passion The office not only needs to redefine the purpose of office as not just a place to work but also a place where social assets are infrastructure and a place that evokes a sense of purpose and belonging. For example, there should be value creation in terms of vitality, inclusion, trust, resilience, and environmental-social impact.

4. Design for flexibility Flexible architectural elements, complexity, and mobility will be further expanded. If the keywords are the furniture trend will be defined around well-being, experience, lifestyle, design, ergonomics, comfort, safety, and harmony.

From Legacy to Innovation; the new sustainability ⸻

Mara Servetto has won the Compasso d'Oro Award 3 times, the Red Dot Design Award 11 times, and the German Design Award 2 times. She is currently the co-CEO of Migliore+Servetto Architects and a visiting professor at Joshibi University in Tokyo. Founded in 1997, Migliore+Servetto Architects has been active in various fields, from institutional and corporate design around the world, installation design, urban revitalization design, museum exhibition, interior design, and branding to identity. In particular, she offers new sustainability proposals through designs that engage people through human emotion and idea inspiration. The study of the relationship with the environment is no longer a topic that cannot be ignored. She emphasizes the projects carried out in Asia and focuses on bridging the cultural gap between the West and the East.

Mara Servetto(마라 세르베토)는 Compasso d' Oro Award 3회, Red Dot Design Award 11회, German Design Award 2회를 수상하였으며 현 Migliore+Servetto Architects의 공동 CEO이며 도쿄 Joshibi University 객원교수이다. 1997년에 설립된 Migliore+Servetto Architects는 현재까지 전 세계 기관 및 회사 디자인, 설치디자인, 도시 활성화 디자인, 박물관전시, 인테리어, 브랜딩에서 아이덴티티까지 다양한 분야에서 활약 중이다. 특히나 인간의 감정 및 아이디어 영감을 통해 사람들의 참여를 유도하는 디자인을 통해 새로운 지속 가능성에 대한 제안을 하고있다. 특히 환경과의 관계를 연구하는 것은 더 이상 무시할 수 없는 주제이다. 특히 아시아에서 진행된 프로젝트에서 더욱 강조하고, 서양과 동양 간의 문화적 간극을 좁히는데 있어서 중점적으로 연구하고 있다.

Variety and Possibilities of Living Ceramic Products ⸻

This is a lecture on the overall history of ceramics and the current status of the development of ceramics in Korea, China, and Japan. As the saying goes, China is the father of ceramics, Korea is the mother of ceramics, and Japan is the child of ceramics. In particular, he explained in detail about the bathroom culture where ceramics are used a lot, what durability and led the design trend in each era, and it was possible to know in detail about the changes in people's bathroom usage behavior and behavior. In particular, it was a good opportunity to hear interesting anecdotes and design practices at the time of construction and construction based on my experience at the INAX company.

세라믹의 전반적인 역사 및 한중일 도자기 발전 현황에 대해 강연하였다. 중국은 도자기의 아버지, 한국은 도자기의 어머니, 일본은 도자기의 자식과 같다는 말처럼, 서로 같은 듯 다른 도자기 발전 문화에 따른 각 나라별 생활방식에 대한 내용이 이어졌다. 특히 세라믹이 많이 사용되는 욕실문화에 대해 디테일하게 설명을 했다. 각 시대별로 어떤 내구성, 어떤 디자인이 유행을 선도했으며 그에 따라 사람들의 욕실 사용 행위 및 행태가 변화된 점에 대해서 상세하게 알 수 있었다. 특히 INAX 회사에서의 경력을 바탕으로 기업 및 시공시의 재밌는 일화 및 디자인 실무에 대한 이야기도 들을 수 있는 좋은 기회가 되었다.

전통가구와 문화를 기반으로 한 현대가구 사례 및 제작에 대한 강의를 했다. 박인주 명장님께서는 가구제작업에 종사하면서 전통부터 현대가구까지 다양한 프로젝트를 진행해왔다. 전통 창호와 관련된 프로젝트로 청와대/합천해인사/헌법재판소와 협업한 프로젝트에 대한 소개 및 제작과정 사진, 시공사진 등 다양한 자료를 통해 이해를 도왔다. 최근에는 DDP와 함께 진행했던 프로젝트를 소개했다, 한국전통 책궤(책보관함)을 모티브로 디자인이며, 박스 재료는 월넛과 은행나무를 사용, 프레임은 금속 각재를 사용 하여 재단과 용접작업을 통해 진행하였다. 칠은 한국전통 옻칠로 옻나무에서 채취한 용액을 사용하여 마감하는 한국 전통 가구의 칠 기법을 통해 한국의 전통미를 살렸다. 앞선 사례들을 통해 전통가구를 현대화 하는데 있어서 접근법은 여러가지가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Aesthetic of furniture by the structural resolution and perfection of production by the Korean master ⸻

Recently, the project with DDP was introduced, designed with the motif of a traditional Korean bookcase (bookbox), the box material used walnuts and ginkgo trees, and the frame used metal wood for the foundation and welding. Chill preserved Korean traditional beauty through the painting technique of traditional Korean furniture, which is finished using a solution collected from lacquer trees with traditional Korean lacquer. From the previous examples, it was found that there are various approaches to modernizing traditional furniture.
