The Higher School of Art and Design, Saint-Etienne, France
Built in 1803, the ESADSE has always been closely linked to the industrial and economic development of a city that had been at the cutting edge of industrial modernity during the 19th Century. This history led to the development of a department of design in 1990, and to creation of the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne in 1998. Today, this dynamic is still present in the Public Institution of Cultural Cooperation (EPCC), which gathers the School and the Cité du Design.
