Through meetings with senior interior designers working in the field, students understood the overall practice and process of interior design, and took special lectures on some of Baek Jong-hwan's signature works, the most difficult or memorable projects, and the 3D printing techniques that they are interested in recently.

Narrow Space ⸻ 2018



Content ⸻:

Yoshihiko Terahara is Professor of Industrial/Interior/Craft Design at the prestigious Tokyo Musashino Art University in Japan. He is an expert in interior product design, design research of narrow space HUT, and multi-faceted analysis and research on masterpiece chairs. He conducted workshops on small spaces with Kookmin University Furniture Lab.



Result ⸻:

Under the theme of narrow space in Japan's residential space, Japanese residential culture and furniture, small space and user convenience, and changes in Japanese residential culture due to lifestyle changes, I could understand the perspective of Japanese residential culture and new residential environment.



Workshop on Comparative Studies of Living Culture in Korea and China ⸻ 2017



Content ⸻:

The residential environment of dual-income families with one child in Korea and China was analyzed through complex methods such as questionnaires, interviews, and video shooting. Based on the results, the commonalities, and differences of the two countries' living cultures were analyzed in terms of culture, social, and design.

Korea and China share, compare, and conduct joint research through presentations and discussions based on each other's research results.



Benjamin Grindorge ⸻:

Contemporary Artisanal Production ⸻ 2017



Content ⸻:

A workshop was conducted for Kookmin University students to conduct a project on social and human contexts, and a workshop on 'contemporary artisanal production'. Professor Benjamin Graindorge gave a lecture on technology and art, introduction of works that fused Western (France) and Eastern (Japan), and the process of developing in his own experience and reality. In addition, students who wanted to participate in the workshop prepared, presented, and modeled the design direction they wanted according to the topic.



Result ⸻:

Students are expected to imagine and prototype objects to be presented in the end of the intense workshop week in coherence with the announced theme.

We conducted a workshop on the process of interacting between functions and forms using the surroundings and geometry through Longchamps Cathedral in Le Corbusier to foster a designer of insightful thinking that combines technology, emotion, and culture.

Creative Design Workshop with Alessandro Mendini ⸻ 2016



Content ⸻:

In the workshop, the subject word 'SQUARE', specific materials, and design progress methods are presented, and the entire process is led from the evaluation of students' works. It was his first time as a world-class master to have a simple yet honest vice-principal position with the works of ordinary Korean students for a long time. In particular, it was a meaningful time for design education in that each student's design will be added to the design, and unlike meeting young Koreans through indirect channels such as special lectures and media, Kookmin University, which leads Korean design education, directly communicated with young designers.



Result ⸻:

The results of the workshop will be developed as a product by domestic professional designers as mentors over the next month. Among them, he was honored with the Mandini Award and displayed in the design part of the Venice Architectural Design Biennale.



Creative Design Workshop with Stefano Giovannoni ⸻ 2016



Content ⸻:

After presenting the theme word "Tableware", specific materials, and design progress methods, the process from design planning to prototyping and mass production development through 3D printing and the evaluation of students' works were drawn.



Result ⸻:

It was a time to give students opportunities for creative ideas and experiences and communicate through workshops. The results of the workshop will be introduced at an international design exhibition after patent registration.



BK_ESAD + TSINGHUA + KMU ⸻ 2016



Purpose ⸻:

Through academic events, it was intended to acquire know-how in the development of the local community and to gauge its future value by promoting exchanges between Saint-Tetien City and universities, which are famous for their world-class design biennials and excellent urban design.

The OCDC team, ESADSE in France, Tsinghua University in China and I-TEC FORUM were held. The presentation of community mapping research in Seochon area and discussion on it were conducted, and after that, field trips in Seochon area were conducted.

Anna Gili ⸻:

"Animal Stool" ⸻ 2015



Content ⸻:

Animals can be said to be partners in life that coexist with humans. Since ancient times, in the East, animals that are always close to us are called the Chinese zodiac, and various wisdom of life has been put into 12 animals and applied to life. Anna Gili, Italy's leading artist and active designer, has been engaged in creative activities focusing on the sensibility and culture of the times that shed light on the value of life with humans and animals based on her love for animals and infinite imagination. This workshop, along with Anna Gili, conducted a sketch of the idea of "Animal Image Stool for All" in which each participant can feel pure childhood nostalgia that stimulates human emotions through experience and creative interpretation of animals. Each participant shared memories and emotions through talking about memories and experiences with animals, and based on this, an idea sketch for stool, a furniture that can be easily used and seen in daily life was conducted.



Result ⸻:

Students proceeded with the design by applying emotional colors according to their senses, and Anna Gill developed the design individually. It is meaningful in that it presents skills, emotions, and cultural discourses at the workshop and provides opportunities for students to think and experiment themselves.



OCD Workshop ⸻ 2011



Content ⸻:

In the workshop, seminars of invited speakers were held while touring Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy, Bongjeongsa Temple's Yeongsanam Hermitage, Seonghyeolsa Temple's Nahanjeon, Andong's Hahoe Village, Buyongdae, Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram, Gwaeneung, and Yangdong Village.



Result ⸻:

Foreign speakers who toured Korean nature and architecture and experienced Korean-style housing in Seonbi Village in Yeongju were fascinated by the beauty of Korea, and it became a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the aesthetic value of the East through a two-day seminar of speakers.
